Gravel cycling & bikepacking
Trail support, gravel routes and rugged transport from Adelaide and Clare Valley to trailheads.
As an experienced gravel and bikepacking cyclist, Sam has built the Trackwork fleet to transport up to four riders, bikes and supplies for point-to-point and supported touring across the Mid North of South Australia. Our heavily upgraded Hilux features an Australian-made, five bike Shingleback rack with added protection for bikes, against rocks and debris. We also have options of both our Hilux or Fuso Canter 4×4 for groups of up to ten total. Sam is familiar with local challenges, having cycled in Australia and New Zealand, by gravel cycling, bikepacking and long-distance touring.
In partnership with Brake and Chain of Clare Valley, travellers’ bikes now can be serviced and repaired, or spares supplied remotely whilst out on the Mawson Trail and other routes. Mechanical breakdowns on the trail can be rectified while minimising delays to your progress. While travelling through the region, we can also prepare food, accommodation and off-trail experiences based on your itinerary, level of riding experience and expected daily distances to be covered. We’ve also mapped a range of custom, challenging gravel cycling routes, spanning out from the Clare Valley in all directions for those wanting to roam. Ride away with a tailwind in the morning and we’ll pick you up later and go for a feed, before heading home or to your accomodation.
Cycling trail access
We provide access to cycling trails across the region, including:
- Mawson Trail (Adelaide to Flinders Ranges).
- Lavender Federation Cycling Trail.
- Walk the York Trail.
- Localised shorter trails around Mount Bryan, Caroona Creek, Bundaleer Forest, Wirrabara Forest and Mount Remarkable.
- Our custom backroad routes across the region, with gpx mapping files available.
- Connecting trails between regions, including the Riesling Trail, Rattler Trail, Wool Trail, Southern Flinders Rail Trail, Shamus Liptrop and Copper Trails.
As with all of our adventure travels, our journeys are risk managed, with safety equipment, first aid kits, navigation and EPIRBs available for hire at time of booking. Our capabilities and training provide resupply, medevac and retrieval, across the region along all trails if required.
Cyclist travel support
Our Trackwork Hilux is equipped with capacity for 5 bikes, for groups of up to four passengers and driver. We can get you from Adelaide or Clare Valley to any trail across regional areas of South Australia. We can get you and your bikes to amazing locations, able to organise food and lodging on request, along your route. In partnership with Brake and Chain Cycles of Clare Valley, bikes now can be serviced or repaired whilst on even remote sections of Mawson Trail and other routes.
Options include Trackwork collecting your bike and transporting it into Clare for rapid repairs, before returning back to your location once completed. Or take the opportunity to ride along and gather supplies and explore the town. We can also support cyclists riding from the Clare Valley on single or multi-day rides, collecting at the end and transporting back. While in the area, get in touch with us for our custom-mapped gpx files for some of the best gravel routes in the area. Such routes are laid out in every direction from the valley, and we will arrange to collect you from the end point and return back.
TRAIL supplIES & Experiences
We can help with planning and taking the weight off your shoulders by dropping additional supplies along your route. This can be placed in advance for planned long distance treks, or at the time of transport of cyclists to trailheads. Through our network of local hospitality partners, Trackwork proudly offers local culinary experiences on-site at your campground, arranged in advance upon request. Just setup your camp and have us come out to provide catered meals on site for the evening.
We can cater to all dietary choices and tastes, offering food and drink experiences under the stars from beer to wine, or barbie to gourmet food. We can also package options for interpretation and insights from indigenous and European historical perspectives. Evenings on the trails can also include a local experience or visit to a township, pub or restaurant, before returning to camp to continue your journey ahead. Naturally, Trackwork can coordinate special accommodation, cuisine and cultural experiences both at the beginning and conclusion of any travel itinerary upon request.
